Steve and I just spent a nice, quiet time, exploring Zion National Park. It was blustery and cold with very few tourists around. There were no crowds to elbow through and lots of parking spaces to choose from! It was a perfect weekend to get away and relax. And a 'plus' to being there in the 'off' season, besides the lower hotel room rates, was the ability to drive through the park in your own car and not having to be packed in to a crowded shuttle! During the tourists' season, cars are not allowed to drive through the park due to congestion and over-use of the roads. Therefore, shuttles are used.
We took plenty of photos, many of which we took through the car's windows as we drove. Since it was so cold and rainy, it was more convenient to do it this way. Thus, we can really say that we took photos as we drove through the park! I will share a slide show of the scenery as we saw it both from within and without the car.
And though the rest of the state of Utah got snow, Zion and a small area around it, did not. We were so hoping that we would get snowed in and have an excxuse to stay longer. But, as you can see from the photo of the Driftwood Lodge, it was sunny and clear when we left on Sunday. However, as soon as we drove about twent five miles away, there was snow! And it was white and snowy all the way home! When we got home, there was about five inches of the stuff on the front lawn! And Josh had a nice warm fire going in the woodstove and had just finished baking home made bread, so the house was welcoming, we arrived.
Monday, promises to be busy with the need to finish preparing the kits and food for the Craft Day at church scheduled for the ladies on Saturday. Along with that I need to get the Christmas decorations up in the house and start wrapping gifts for mailing. Maybe, I can get most of it done so that I can enjoy the rest of the month...
